Apple has unveiled a new smart watch at their annual launch event that is not just faster and sleeker but also capable of saving lives.

While much of the hype was predictably around the three new iPhone models, the Series Four watch was treated to some major upgrades that did not go unnoticed.

The new model will have the ability to take high-quality heart readings to detect irregular heart rhythms and other potential problems.

Apple says its Apple Watch is the first over-the-counter product to take readings through electrocardiography, or EKG.

The new watch can also detect falls and contact emergency officials.

“Apple Watch Series 4 is the ultimate guardian for your health, the best fitness companion, and the most convenient way to stay connected,” Apple COO Jeff Williams during the press conference.

During Apple’s unveiling, American Health Association President Ivor Benjamin said capturing such data will help prevent stroke, heart failure and other problems.

Apple says the heart data can be shared with doctors, though it’s not yet clear how ready doctors are to getting all that.

The screen size of the Apple Watch has increased by over 30 percent. However, the actual volume of the watch is slimmer than the Series 3.

It has an S4 processor, with a 64-bit dual-core processor that makes it up to 2x faster. Despite the power, it still has an 18 hour battery life.

It comes in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm (up from 38mm and 42mm, respectively).

The watch will be available in 3 aluminum finishes: silver, gold, space gray. It also comes in stainless steel: polished, space black, and gold stainless.

How much will it cost?

The base models, which include GPS but not cellular data, start at $599.

The stainless-steel models, which includes GPS and cellular data, start at $1199.

The series four also features a leather collaboration with watch brand Hermés that cost more than $2400.
